At Rokeby we aim to provide our children with an engaging, exciting and empowering curriculum that equips them for today and as lifelong learners. The learning in our community will be enhanced through ‘Our Rokeby Promise’, which gives meaningful life experiences and enhances their school-life by creating memories which will impact on their future life in the wider world.
At Rokeby the curriculum is designed to enable our children to:
Recognise and develop their prior learning
Enjoy purposeful first-hand learning experiences
Develop interpersonal skills
Build independence and resilience
Foster a love of reading
Become creative, critical thinkers
Become competent mathematicians by mastering maths
Enhance learning through memorable visits, residential trips and visitors to school
Enjoy, thrive and excel in all areas, both in cross-curricular and in extra-curricular
At the heart of our curriculum is our unique, individual learners.
We celebrate and welcome differences within our school community. Our curriculum is based around high-quality texts with a rainbow approach to developing skills, knowledge and concepts.
Our curriculum is underpinned by ‘The Power of Reading’ books and our topics are planned to match the current class book. This gives children the opportunity to fully immerse themselves and explore learning in great depth.
This curriculum design ensures that the needs of individual and small groups of children can be met within the environment of quality first teaching, supported by targeted, proven interventions where appropriate.
We use Rokeby Key qualities, alongside ‘Good to Be Green’ and ‘Class Dojos’ to promote independent positive attitudes and to promote responsibility for learning and future success.
To enable our children to develop their learning in the wider world, families are invited into school to take part and support their children in a range of activities across the year.
‘Our Rokeby Promise’ will develop children as inquisitive and engaged learners, through a range of key life experiences.
To provide the foundations for positive lifelong learning.
If you attend our school from Nursery until Year 6, then we promise that you will experience all of these things:
